During your visit to the Beaumont Inn bed and breakfast, see some of the area's beautiful horse farms. There are about 450 horse farms in our region. Since they are working farms, you need to visit with a guide/tour company or call the farm ahead to make an appointment. The Kentucky Horse Park also offers a good close-up experience with horses.

Shelby County has been called "The Saddlebred Capital of the World," because it is home of many of the country's most outstanding American Saddlebred breeding and training facilities. Tours are weekly, Monday through Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Tour includes historical and points of interest downtown Lexington, (Mary Todd Lincoln Home, Hunt Morgan House, etc., Historical Homes, Churches, three of four Theaters, Restaurants, Thoroughbred Park.) There is a stop at the Red Mile Standardbread Track, tour of Keeneland Race Track, tours of two renowned horse farms, and a scenic drive through horse country, including the Millionaire's road of the 19 hundreds and the Man O' War Statue. Ashford Stud
VERSAILLES - Bluegrass
Ashford Stud, near Versailles, is home to 2000 Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus as well as 1995 Derby winner Thunder Gulch and will show their majestic stallions by appointment. Like a growing number of stallions, many of Ashford stud's travel to the Southern hemisphere after the Kentucky breeding season ends, so they may not be at home July through January.

Tours of the farm in Bourbon County near Paris are by appointment only and advance registration must be made by calling 859-987-2330. Hours of Operation: Walking Tours available 10am & 11am (approx. 45 mins. to 1 hr.) by reservation only. Owned by the Hancock Family, Claiborne Farm has been a leading Thoroughbred farm for generations. The guided tour includes the simple tombstone that marks the grave of the great Secretariat, 1973 Triple Crown winner (and considered by many to be the greatest race horse of all time). Normandy Farm

Normandy Farm is famous for its unusual L-shaped barn. Commissioned in 1933 by then-owner Joseph Widener as an exact replica of a barn in Normandy, France, where he sought refuge after his plane crashed during World War 1, the barn features a clock tower. The farm also includes an interesting cemetery, in which a life-size bronze statue of Thoroughbred champion Fair Play overlooks the graves of Fair Play and Mahubah, sire and dam of Man o'War. Famous residents include 2001 Horse of the Year Point Given. Tours are given year-round Tuesdays through Saturdays at 1:00pm. A farm representative gives a guided tour of the stallion complex, breeding shed and mare receiving bar. Tour size is limited, so call well in advance for reservations. Derby week books up months in advance. Smarty Jones continues to create quite a stir! Call ahead for information. (859) 873-7053
